My unique and quirky gothic owl Christmas card features my original pen and ink illustration of a beautiful inky owl with large golden eyes, glaring at us with the kind of festive cheer only a wise old owl can muster. Wearing a Santa hat and perched in an old, twisty black tree, this owl looks ready for Christmas… if perhaps a little reluctantly.

Blank inside for your own festive greetings, it’s an alternative way to wish the owl lovers in your life a happy Christmas, especially those who appreciate the darker side of the winter season. A lovely card for anyone who resonates more with Scrooge than Santa, for lovers of owls, nature and folklore, and anyone who never quite grew out of their love of dark fairytale illustration… and hopefully never will.

I designed this card by hand in my small Nottingham-based studio, as part of my range of owl cards. I have been meaning to add some festive owls for a long time! I love their expressive features and incredible head-turning abilities. Old trees are favourite subjects of mine too, so pairing this slightly moody owl with a wonderfully twisty tree felt like a fitting composition for the winter season.

My owl cards are printed here in the UK in small batches on thick, smooth white cardstock, making them easy to write on and lovely to display throughout the Christmas season. This card comes with a festive red envelope, which complements my dark, inky design beautifully.
